RMH6000 Fiber Integrity Monitors (OSC)
It is mandatory that any system designed to launch high power (whether it be high power booster or Raman/ROPA pump power) into a fiber link includes a Fiber Integrity Monitor subsystem to:
Verify the integrity of the fiber path before allowing high-power sources to be activated
Initiate an automatic safety shutdown of all high-power sources in the event of a fiber break or an open connector
Provide for automatic restart following restoration of the fiber path
The RMH6000 Fiber Integrity Monitor, implemented by cards RMH6000-OSU/1574 and RMH6000-OSU/1620 , provides dedicated, redundant, out of band, end-to-end fiber plant monitoring with automatic shut-down and restart in case of an event. The RMH6000 FIM features:
Redundant 1574-nm OSU cards provide high-reliability on-going fiber integrity monitoring
1620-nm optical supervisory channel used to verify end-to-end link integrity prior to turning on ROPA pump
Hazard Level 1M Operation:
High power amplifiers and lasers may only turn on or stay on if two-way OSC communication is established
Provides for Automatic Laser Shutdown in the event of a fiber break or open connector and Automatic Laser Restart when the fiber path is restored
The launch power of the Fiber Integrity Monitor signal does not exceed the Class 1 level
