OFS Highly Non-Linear Fiber (HNLF) combines a high non-linear coefficient with numerical small group velocity dispersion. The fiber design includes a high delta core, doped with either GeO2 or Al, surrounded by a deeply depressed ring doped with fluorine. The HNLF is available in four versions: a version with a slope of 0.019 ps/(nm2•km), a zero dispersion slope version, a PM version, and a version with aluminum-doped core for increased SBS threshold. All types are available with a wide range of dispersion values. The PM-HNLF is based on an elliptical core. It doesn’t have any stress rods.

Typical Applications
Parametric amplification, optical regeneration, non-linear loop mirror, optical sampling, pulse compression, wavelength conversion,
super continuum generation, and as photosensitive fiber for writing of UV-gratings.
Delivery
The HNLF is delivered spliced to a short (1-2 meter) Standard Single Mode Fiber (SSMF) pigtail with connectors as per request.
For the aluminum-doped HNLF, an additional 1-2 meter bridge fiber is spliced between HNLF and SSFM. The fiber with pigtails is delivered on a 29 x 175 mm spool covered with a protective layer of silicone glue.

Options
The fiber can be delivered without pigtails on a 105 x 265 mm spool without any silicone glue. However, please note that splice loss of about 1 dB from HNLF to SSMF must be expected when splicing on standard fusion splicers.
Pigtailed fiber can be delivered without silicone glue.
The fiber can be delivered in length from 100 – 250 m spooled with a linear strain gradient from 1000 to 100 g on a 140 x 320 mm spool for increased SBS-threshold.
