FC – Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) Coils and other Fiber Optic Sensors
DESCRIPTION
The General Photonics FC series of frameless fiber coils are available with lengths of 50 meters to 5 kilometers and diameters of 15 millimeters to 120 millimeters. The frameless coils are constructed with proprietary potting adhesives to ensure reliability. Coil patterns available include quadrupole and octupole patterns that minimize the Shupe effect and consequent degradation of Sagnac gyros over temperature. The FC series is available with complete test data including polarization cross-talk vs. distance for PM fiber coils; and PDL vs. temperature and PMD vs. temperature for SM fiber coils.

PM COIL PERFORMANCE DATA
Typical polarization crosstalk performance of a PM coil at different temperatures. Excellent cross-talk performance (below −50 dB) is observed over a temperature range of −50° to +80°C
CROSSTALK-ROOM TEMP.
Polarization crosstalk vs. distance at room temperature.
CROSSTALK-HIGH TEMP.
Crosstalk measurement of the same coil at 25° and 80°C.
CROSSTALK-LOW TEMP.
Crosstalk measurement of the same coil at 25° and −50°C.
SM COIL PERFORMANCE DATA
Typical SM coil performance at different temperatures of a General Photonics coil and a reference coil from another manufacturer.
PMD vs. TEMPERATURE
Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is a measure of stress induced in the fiber during the winding process. The amount of PMD or PMD changes with temperature can indicate coil performance.
、
PDL vs. TEMPERATURE
High polarization dependent loss (PDL) may degrade gyro performance.
